Amy's Holidays

Amy's Care understand how important a holiday is; the chance to get away, visit new places and relax. For many, caring for a loved one with challenging needs, a holiday can seem daunting and an impossible dream.

We, at Amy's, have turned this dream into reality. Nestled in the middle ot the beautiful cumbrian village of Ireby, near Keswick in the Northern Lake District, we have a beautiful holiday home complete with disabled facilites. The Old Chapel is available to hire with, or without care.

With fully qualified staff available to help with any care requirments and day care already offered within the village, Amy’s can offer a real  holiday for all the family.

A recent guest who stayed at The Old Chapel and attended the Day Care Social Club said:

"What is special about the Old Chapel is that it is a welcoming space with a unique charm.  The break gave myself and my sister the opportunity to spend some quality time together in a relaxed and really delightful environment.  Knowing that there were suitable activities and care on hand that we could join in with if we wanted to was so important"

The Old Chapel

The Old Methodist Chapel (1878) has in the past been a chapel, offices, and a home and has now been lovingly renovated to provide a comfortable and unusual place to enjoy a holiday.

Situated only a short drive from Bassenthwaite Lake, Skiddaw and Keswick in the Northern Lake District it is perfectly placed to access all that the beautiful Lake District has to offer.

The Old Chapel will sleep up to 6 people offering a double en-suite room, a ground floor twin room with electric tilting bed and wet room, and a double and single bunk bed.  The property has disabled access and offers extra disabled facilities such as rise and recline chair and hearing loop.

Residential Weeks and Holiday Activities - 016973 71973

Amy’s Care ethos is ‘Life is for Living’  No matter the level of mental or physical impairment at Amy’s we believe that people can always enjoy activities appropriate to their circumstances.

Dementia and Disabled Residential Courses

We are so lucky to be surrounded by such a beautiful landscape and want to inspire people to get out and enjoy it.

In June 2014 we teamed up with Dementia Adventure to host our 1st residential holiday for people living with dementia.  The holidays combine exclusive use of a small country house hotel serving good food along with taking part in a range of outdoor and indoor events; all aimed at supporting and improving stratergies for living a fulfilling and active life whilst living with dementia.  The groups are always small and highly supported by staff and volunteers to ensure respite for carers too.

Dates for 2017 are now available - please call to discuss your requirements.

September 15 - Our 3rd holiday with Dementia Adventure was blessed with the most amazing weather except one shower!.  The group enjoyed a launch trip on the lake, walked a mountain, visited the famous cathedral caverns as well as played the musical stones in Keswick

A moving thank you card recieved at Amy's Care after the week said 'with Amy's Care you'll never be the same again.  Our time with you has been life-changing'

May 15 - Another group with members at different stages of dementia and with different mobility needs arrived in May 2015.  Another sucessful week which included stone circles, cumbrian dinners, gardening, Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage, walking by lakes and through the countryside.

Friends made and troubles shared.  A group member says 'it was one of the most wonderful holidays they have ever been on'

June 2014 - We enjoyed good weather (for the Lake District!) and walked the hills, rode the launch, visited local villages, walked barefoot on the beach, had a garden party and a dance workshop.

Everyone had a great time and made a lifelong support network of friends.  One participant commented on thier return home 'We just want to say thank you again for your time, hospitality and friendship last week.  We both enjoyed ourselves so much'

Amy’s Care would love to involve everyone on holiday at The Old Chapel with activities which might simply be a trip to the lake or a ride on the launch on Derwent Water or something more adventurous like a walk up a mountain or paragliding.

Please call Amy’s Care and speak to us to discuss the possibility of including some activities within your holiday plans.

We can arrange all sorts of residential holidays with a theme to suit you and your interests and adapted to your disabilities.

About Ireby

Ireby is a peaceful, but working, fell village situated just on the northern boundary of the national park.

In 1237 Ireby received its market charter and developed into a thriving sheep market. Four small roads meet in the centre of the village, where a moot hall and butter cross suggest something of the village's former high profile in this part of England. In 1726 Ireby School was founded to educate eight poor children from the parish.

Ireby Village

Today Ireby still has a thriving community in which many social events happen.  The local village boasts 50 pupils and the school canteen provides nutritional meals, cooked onsite with local produce, to Amy’s Day Care Service.  The village has a busy WI Hall, where Amy’s Day Care is based, and throughout the year there are many theatre and musical events held in the Globe Hall; the villages 2nd community centre.

The village pub serves local ales, home-cooked meals and offers a takeaway service and a village farm offers milk, eggs and vegetables.

Ireby music festival is an annual event which attracts over 500 music fans to enjoy many folk acts over a weekend in May.

Care and Extra Treats

Whilst on holiday at The Old Chapel, Amy’s Care can offer care and help as needed by each individual family situation.  This may include simple help with morning and night time routines or more extensive care during the day or night; thus allowing other family members to have time to explore the surrounding area and enjoy some respite.

Amy’s Care currently operates a day care service for local residents and will always welcome holiday residents to join the group for the day.
